Angel Character Awards Ceremony
Partnering with the Mary Beth’s Angels Foundation, KidSmart honors ten local students for demonstrating strong character traits. On Thursday, February 28, a dinner and awards ceremony, made possible by Purina, was held at the City Academy for the students and their families.
With students nominated by teachers, the nominations were judged by an independent community panel on the student’s demonstration of strong character in cooperation, perseverance, kindness, responsibility and respect. Recipients are notified of their award with a surprise visit to their classrooms. All recipients receive supplies for their classroom and a custom lamp generously donated by L.E. Sauer – Warren Sauer. This year, recipients enjoyed an extra bonus from St. Louis Blues team captain Eric Brewer and his wife Rebecca – tickets to an upcoming Blues game and personalized autographed pictures.
At the dinner, Shimmy Gray-Miller, head coach of the Saint Louis University Women’s Basketball team, was the guest speaker and presented awards. Adding inspiration and humor to the evening, she was a hit with everyone.
Mary Beth’s Angels Foundation was created in memory of Mary Beth Ricken by her family. The Foundation strives to fulfill Mary Beth’s dream of assisting underprivileged children through their outreach.
