KidSmart Offices Closed Friday, March 2
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, KidSmart - Tools for Learning is distributing more than 8,000 Scholastic books to students at 22 local schools during its first Read to Succeed. Corporate sponsors from Boeing, and KidSmart staff and volunteers, will deliver the books and read to students throughout the day on Friday, March 2.
The Employees Community Fund of Boeing - St. Louis is one of eleven corporations, individuals and foundations who are part of KidSmart's Supply-A-School program. Their contributions provide funding for teachers from 22 of the schools served by KidSmart to shop at KidSmart's Free Store.
The additional Supply-A-School partners include: The Crawford Taylor Foundation, Enterprise-Rent-a-Car, Maryland Yards, Purina, The Philpott Family Foundation, The Saigh Foundation, and Citigroup Smith Barney.
KidSmart was established in 2002 to help local kids in need succeed in school by providing them with free school supplies. Since 2002 KidSmart has distributed nearly $5 million in school supplies and educational materials to more than 40,000 St. Louis area kids in need. There are 40,000 area students still in need of KidSmart's services.
Boeing is one of KidSmart's largest school supply donors. Every August Boeing employees in the St. Louis region collect new school supplies through its Books and Backpacks program. Last year they collected more than 44,000 new school supply items that were distributed to local kids in need through KidSmart's Free Store.
KidSmart's administrative offices will be closed Friday, March 2 for the Read to Succeed.
