The Push for Pencils is On!

KidSmart-Tools for Learning is looking for businesses, organizations and community groups to participate in the fourth annual Push for Pencils school supply drive. KidSmart distributes the donated school supplies to more than 40,000 local kids in need through its free school supply store.

Businesses, organizations and community groups are encouraged to collect school supplies and financial donations for KidSmart throughout August. KidSmart provides promotional materials and other assistance to participants. Groups can also get involved by volunteering at the KidSmart Free Store, or by picking up supplies at locations throughout St. Louis.

AG Edwards, Boeing, Custom Cuts and USA&M are only a few of the more than 40 businesses and organizations that have already committed to participate in this years drive. The entire community is encouraged to get involved by dropping off new school supplies at any American Equity Mortgage, National City, Office Depot or Crown Vision Center location in the Greater St. Louis area.

Last year's Push for Pencils drive collected more than 280,000 items along with nearly $50,000 for local school children in need.

More than 80,000 St. Louis children cannot afford basic school supplies. KidSmart helps these students succeed in school by providing them with free school supplies.  The organization operates a free school supply store in Bridgeton run entirely on volunteer help.  It is filled with supplies donated by individuals, businesses and organizations across the St. Louis area.  Since opening in 2002 KidSmart has distributed more than $5 million in school supplies to more than 40,000 local kids in need.
