Wal-Mart Donates $20,000 for Back to School
For the second year in a row, Wal-Mart has donated $20,000 to KidSmart in support of school supplies for St. Louis area children going back to school. As part of this generous gift, KidSmart is partnering with Wal-Mart to promote a $10,000 Shopping Spree Essay Writing Contest for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in the St. Louis area. One hundred 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will win a $100 Shopping Spree at Wal-Mart to use during the 2009 Missouri Tax Free Weekend. Additionally, Wal-Mart has donated $10,000 to support KidSmart's Free Educational Supply Store. KidSmart opens for shopping for the new school year on Monday, August 3. The greatest school supply need for the 45,000 local children whom KidSmart serves are the most basic of supplies: paper, pencils, markers, crayons and glue. In addition to the Annual KidSmart Push for Pencils School Supply Drive, each year KidSmart uses donated funds to purchase the top needed school supplies to help stock the KidSmart Free Store shelves for back to school. Wal-Mart's generosity will support KidSmart and help equip 45,000 St. Louis children with the tools they must have to succeed this school year.
