Spreading the Word

Making a donation to the charity or organization of your choice, or volunteering your time to a cause you belive in are two great ways to give back to your community and make a difference in the world. While I always feel great after doing either of these, I often find myself wishing that I had more money or more time to donate. Still, I must ground myself with the reality that I alone cannot save the world. So then what...?

I think the next best thing that anyone can do is to simply talk about it. Talk to people about whatever cause you are passionate about; tell your friends and family about it, and why you belive in it. Ask them to get involved, and then if they find themselves sharing your passion, ask them to pass it along as well. It’s amaizing how quickly things can spread through the power or word of mouth.

So, if you are one of our dedicated volunteers or regular donors, and you are looking to do more, please pass along the KidSmart message to others you know; tell them about KidSmart, what it means to you, and ask them to get involved and help you make a bigger difference.

Shirey-
Thanks so much for blogging about the power of word of mouth.  KidSmart and awareness of our mission has been built on that very grassroots but powerful form of marketing.  We have been very fortunate to have incredible teachers, volunteers, donors, corporate partners, board members and staff who have all been willing to help spread the word about the 80,000 children in our community who want to learn but who need our help and support to succeed.

Especially in St. Louis, where everyone seems to know everyone, being willing to spread the word about our kids, the great need, the positive impact of KidSmart and our mission...and how we are always looking for great people to get involved...has helped KidSmart grow from supplying 4000 children a year in 2002 to supplying 45,000 children in need in August 2008.

There are still 40,000 more children who need our help...we ask you to keep on talking, keep spreading the word.  In doing so, you will help us continue to grow and we will soon be able to supply all 80,000 local kids in need.

It really is amazing what the power of word of mouth can do… I told one of my friend’s mothers about KidSmart earlier this summer, and she proceeded to clean out her house of any extra school supplies she had laying around… She recently brought me bags of notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, and other supplies that her family was no longer using.  Her donation was greatly appreciated, and meant a lot to me personally as well.  So thank you Ms. Wallis (if by chance you see this blog), and thank you to everyone else who has helped to spread the word about KidSmart!!
