Tips for Hosting A Supply Drive

1. Make it easy for people to get involved.

  • Set-up bins in high traffic areas - Ideal locations are in lobbies, cafeterias, near elevators, meeting rooms and designated offices.
  • Post signs and wish lists near or on the bins.  Although KidSmart will provide materials for you to use, you may want to create your own.

2. Inform employees about the drive before it starts and ways they can help.

  • Send out e-mail to all staff
  • Send a voice mail out to all staff
  • Post fliers in lunch rooms and around the office
  • Distribute fliers in employee mailboxes
  • Let the community relations or public relations department know about the drive
  • Put information in to the company newsletter
  • Keep communication going throughout the supply drive

3. Have fun with the drive to increase participation.

  • Organize competitions between floors or departments
  • Offer incentives for employees who participate
    • Casual Day and/or Jeans Day
    • Pizza Party
    • Prizes, such as gift certificates
    • Breakfast or Lunch

4. Bring supplies to KidSmart by August 31 to make sure the store is stocked for the coming schoolyear.

5. Celebrate your success!

  • Make sure your follow employees know the results of your drive to help the over 80,000 children who cannot afford the basic school supplies they need to succeed in school.
